Everybody is used to look at Italy as the Roman Empire, which Conquered and showed its superiority to the Whole World.

Not everybody knows that Italy has been one of the most conquered countries too.

One of the many colonizations was by the Normans themselves.

It happened in 1053 when the Norman Army fought against the Holy Roman Empire.

It was the time of Pope Leo IX. Not only the Normans destroyed the papal army but they captured the Pope himself and imprisoned him in Benevento.

The Normans demonstrated their superiority through a mix of Warrior Spirit(inherited from the Vikings), great cavalry formations, superior combined-arms warfare, focussed siegecraft, and leadership.

They were so successful that expanded their domination over the cities of Oria, Nardo, and Lecce in just two years.

But it was not enough... they created a whole dynasty in Southern Italy.
