Behind the Gondola

Ohhh Venice, such a beautiful City. The whole World knows the amazing boat called "Gondola", it's a symbol of Venice. But there is more behind the sin.

** The Sea **
The Gondola is a symbol of connection to the Sea itself. And maybe the men rowing them are like Sea Angels ready to connect the people from bridge to bridge.



** The Carnival **
Since the 10th century Gondola has been used as the perfect mean to get throug the Venice Canals. With no exception for the Carnival, Gondola has been used to carry masked adventurers and it's a mask itself with its decorations and original cover created to match the masks.

** The Tradition **
The "Gongoliere"(Rower) Job is not something everybody can do. It requires a long tradition and practice. It's in fact something that the children inherit from their parents and will teach to future generations. It requires total dedication from waking up in the early morning to rowing the boat in extremely hostile conditions, because of the high humidity in the canal. In the past, the Gondoliere was rarely used to leave the Gondola during the Daily Job and sometimes even slept on board.

Next time you will go to Venice I hope you will never look at the Gondola the same way.
