EU has finally defined the countries deemed safe to accept tourists from, the list includes 15 countries and it's the following: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay, and China. It will be effective from July 1.
The final decision of whether to accept tourists or not will be then made by each Individual European Country. The decision of Italy is coming soon, but it's high the chance it will be possible for Canadians to travel to Italy.
Around the same time what Canada did?
Canada extended the ban to all the countries until at least 31 July.
It appears a very political decision for so many reasons:
1. Long friendships and ties between Italy and Canada.
2. The lack of reciprocity, which seems disrespectful since Italy has fewer active and daily COVID cases than Canada. Italy is welcoming Canadians, but not the other way around.
3. The unjustifiable contradiction, since right now international students from high risk countries like India(more than 600000 cases) are allowed to enter Canada.
Will this affect the relationship between Italy and Canada?
Only time will tell.
In the meanwhile Italy is welcoming the Canadians. Because the Italians are Gentlemen.
