While in the States angry protesters are relentlessly tearing statues apart, what is happening in
Italy?
The answer is "Nothing".
Italy is the cradle of the Roman Empire, why the Italians are not tearing apart and burning down monuments?
The Roman Empire was full of slavery, blood, and conquering. The Gladiators were slaves themselves, fighting for their life. Why nobody has never erased the Colusseum, which represents that bloody time?
Because the Italians respect history and take it for what it is, just history.
We don't burn history books the same way as the Nazis did. But in the US we tear statues apart nonetheless.
History should be studied, it should be used as a mean to unify people rather than dividing them. When you are walking on a bridge are you aware you can only do it because the Romans invented it? We don't destroy that bridge, we accept that architecture.
Imagine history like a piece of architecture, that we should guard and deeply study, rather than perverting it.
